Q: Aren't you exaggerating the threat of spam?
A: Not according to a recent study by Symantec (the makers of Norton AntiVirus). That study found that 80% of children who use e-mail receive unsolicited messages, and 40% of those messages contain links to pornography. Another study by the Pew Internet and American Life Project found that spam constituted more than half of the e-mail on the internet, and that 76% of e-mail users are bothered by offensive or obscene spam.
Q: Does GrassfireMail protect my e-mail from viruses?

A: 25MB of spam-free email storage with every account.

A: You can send as many attachments as you want, up to a total of 10MB in a single e-mail.

A: No. At present, GrassfireMail is offered as webmail only.

Q: How does GrassfireMail provide better protection than other anti-spam options?
A: Most other options only filter spam. You still must spend time and energy sorting through a folder of filtered e-mail that contains all the junk you're trying to avoid. Q: Why is GrassfireMail better than filters?

USING ADDRESS KEYS (or return to the top)
Q: What is an Address Key?
A: It's an e-mail address that looks and works like an ordinary e-mail address. The difference is that a GrassfireMail Address Key contains a special feature called a Key, that helps keep your family safe from offensive spam. Here are a few examples of Address Keys, with the Keys highlighted in red.

An Address Key lets you choose who can send e-mail to it, and when and how often they can send it. Your correspondents can send you e-mail by replying to your messages, and adding your Address Key to their address book. If you no longer wish to receive e-mail from that person, simply cancel the Address Key. You will stop receiving messages to that Address Key without affecting your other correspondents.
Q: Is it hard to create an Address Key?
A: No, it's really easy! Just login to your webmail account and click on the New Key tab to launch the KeyBuilder. KeyBuilder will create a custom Address Key with just a few clicks. Or just compose an e-mail to someone and let the GrassfireMail system take care of everything automatically.
Q: Is there a limit to the number of Address Keys I am allowed?
A: No. Create as many Address Keys as you need!
Q: What e-mail address should I give to people?
A: If you send someone an e-mail, they will automatically be given an Address Key, and placed in your address book. If you wish to share your e-mail address in person, or over the phone follow the simple steps below:
- Login to your account and click on New Key to launch the KeyBuilder.
- Use the KeyBuilder to create an easy-to-remember Address Key such as johndoe.funnyguy@GrassfireMail.org or jdoe.introkey@GrassfireMail.org.
- Whenever you need to tell someone your e-mail address, give them this one. Anyone who gets an Address Key will be able to send you e-mail directly.
Q: Do I have to create an Address Key for every single person I e-mail?
A: The best way to use GrassfireMail is to have a different Address Key for each correspondent. GrassfireMail makes it easy! The system will send each new person you e-mail a unique Address Key, automatically. You don't have to do anything special to create an Address Key. Just send an e-mail!
Q: What if someone I don't want to receive mail from gets a hold of one of my Address Keys?
A: Simply login to your account and go to your GrassfireMail Address Book. Click on the Key and choose the Close Key option. Once you save your changes, you will never receive e-mail to that Address Key again. But all of your other Keys remain unaffected, allowing you to stop the spam, without hurting all of your other e-mail correspondents.
Q: What if I am using the same Address Key for many correspondents?
A: A change to an Address Key affects everyone using that Address Key to correspond with you. That's why GrassfireMail automatically creates a unique key for each person you e-mail. And the GrassfireMail KeyBuilder allows you to create keys for Shopping, Newsletters, etc., with just a few simple steps. Using unique keys for all of your correspondents is easy, and it keeps spam OUT!
Q: What if I get spam on an Address Key that is also used by a trusted correspondent?
A: Simply login to your account and go to your GrassfireMail Address Book. Click on the Key and type a new key in the Key field. A message will be sent to your correspondent, notifying them of the new Address Key, and the spammer will no longer be able to send you e-mail on the old key. (If you wish to protect this Address Key even further, check the box next to "Make this key private, rejecting mail from any address other than the one above.")
